Executive Perspectives: A Conversation on the Future of the Library Technology Industry

Program sponsored by CORE: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures
Sponsored by CORE

Marshall Breeding, author of the annual Library Systems Report published in American Libraries, will assemble and moderate a panel of senior executives representing organizations that produce software or services for libraries.

Breeding will give a brief introduction and will then lead a lively discussion to probe at the technology and business trends. This year, the panel discussion will focus on issues related to the ongoing consolidation of the library technology industry. Possible topics include the impact business consolidation might have on the development and support of technology products for libraries. Does the increased involvement by companies offering content and workflow products matter? Will there by synergies or interdependencies between content offerings and the technology systems. Does the involvement of large-scale businesses provide opportunities for products based on open source that may lessen dependence on vendors.

Panelists will be expected to candidly reflect the perspectives of their organizations, but not promote their products.
