Dynix launches Vista

Library Systems Newsletter [November 1993]

Dynix has officially launched Vista, its citation service. Known as the "Citation Center" during beta testing by Wake Forest University and Eastern Montana College, Vista offers access to Magazine Index, Magazine ASAP, Business Index, National Newspaper Index, Periodical Abstracts, ABI/INFORM, Humanities Index, Social Sciences Index, and Readers' Guide with Abstracts. Additional files will be loaded in the future. Already scheduled for loading before the end of the year are eleven Ebsco databases, including Magazine Articles Summaries and Academic Abstracts. The Dynix OPAC search software is used, thus reducing the time required for library patrons to become competent searchers.

There is a one-time set up charge for Dynix users to implement Vista. Monthly charges are based on the number of concurrent users to be supported.

While Dynix is targeting its own large customer base, the service appears to be available to other libraries. (CARL and Data Research Associates-each of which has a well-established citation center have attracted a number of accounts which use automated library systems from other vendors.)
