POMONA, Calif., July 8, 1999. Auto-Graphics Inc. (OTCBB:AUGR) today announced it signed a contract with the Connecticut State Library System for full-cataloging services that will be deployed to more than 300 sites. In addition, the agreement includes Auto-Graphics' Web-based PAC, Z39.50 and interlibrary loan (ILL) services which will provide much greater access to library resources across the state and will accommodate the projected growth of the system up to 400 sites over the life of the three-year contract.
The Connecticut State Library System through the Connecticut Library Network, is leveraging Auto-Graphics' Impact/ONLINE™ Web-based service that offers a consolidated catalog of holdings of the multi-type participating libraries and manages the interlibrary loan process as patrons acquire books from anywhere in the state if they are not available locally. Connecticut selected the option of enhancing the speed and efficiency of its union catalog with open-ended access by purchasing Impact/ONLINE with Z39.50 interoperability.
"Connecticut is our first customer to make available full-cataloging services to every library in the state, meaning that each participating location can access catalog information via the Web," said William J. Kliss, chief operating officer for Auto-Graphics. "Implementing Impact/ONLINE's full-cataloging option provides Connecticut with access to an extensive range of databases as a source of cataloging copy. Additionally, Connecticut libraries will use Auto-Graphics' powerful MARC editor."
"A system like Impact/ONLINE opens a whole new range of possibilities for patrons, who will have the ability using the Web to find and retrieve a holding from libraries across the entire state," said Kendall Wiggin, state librarian for Connecticut. "We also wanted a solution that enabled all of the libraries in our state to quickly and reliably share their resources, thereby expanding services to their patrons, and Auto-Graphics' system with Z39.50 interoperability was an ideal fit."
According to Kliss, the reason for incorporating a Z39.50 search capability into Impact/ONLINE is to provide patrons with seamless access to materials from libraries outside the Impact/ONLINE system.
