North Vancouver--Eloquent Systems Inc. is pleased to announce that their state of the art software, WebLibrary and WebArchives, has been selected as the software of choice for the public records office of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong government library. Eloquent Systems' sophisticated WebGENCAT application will convert the data of approximately one million archival records in both Chinese and English, including over 50,000 government publications, 20,000 historical photographs, and approximately 800,000 historical records in a variety of formats including paper, photographic, micrographic, audio-visual and electronic media. Phase I of the conversion will be completed in the fall of 2002, which will allow the public to use the archives and government library via the Internet. The second phase of the conversion will be completed in early 2003, which will then enable circulation control and allow the public to make requests for materials, via remote access.
Before going with Eloquent Systems Inc. software, users of the automated collections in Hong Kong, were required to use different workstations to locate the information they needed as they were maintained in two separate computer systems. With the installation of Eloquent Systems Inc. WebLibrary and WebArchives software, users will now be able to have remote, instant and integrated information access.
