INWOOD, WV, July 18, 2002 — Pomona Public Library in Pomona, California is migrating to The Library Corporation's (TLC's) integrated library system, Library.Solution.
Pomona Public Library will use Library.Solution on its 100-station network. The library has 243,000 titles in its catalog of 291,000 holdings.
Pomona is migrating their automation system from the TALISman system, a custom system designed by the late software designer Ron Williams.
Library officials wanted to replace TALISman with a system that is “state-of-the-art, interactive, Web-compliant, and fully integrated…that would streamline all of the staff and public service functions that had been performed less efficiently and with greater effort,” according to Bruce Guter, Pomona Library Systems Manager. “In particular, we wanted a new system that would serve as a welcoming ‘portal' to the library's entire complement of electronic information resources and services, including Internet access, access to subscription databases, self-service computer usage, Web OPAC searching, and a host of other functions. We think we have found that system with Library.Solution, “ Mr. Guter said.
The library's implementation of Library.Solution will include YouSeeMore, a portal for patrons to Internet resources and the library's catalog, and Kid's Catalog Web, an easy PAC interface for young users with thousands of pre-selected links to informative Web sites. “We anticipate that the Kid's Catalog Web and the You See More features of the OPAC will delight and dazzle our patrons while supplying them with the information that they require,” Mr. Guter said.
Regarding other systems the library considered Mr. Guter said, “We were most impressed by TLC's well demonstrated record of service to the public library marketplace. This included their recent, successful effort to develop and deliver a Spanish Language OPAC interface, which was one of our priority requirements for a new system. We felt that TLC wanted our business and would make every effort after purchase to accommodate our needs and concerns, and support our use of the product.”
He added: “All library staff members involved in the system selection process felt that Library.Solution was the system that most met their requirements for a straight-forward, well designed, user friendly ‘off the shelf' system that could also accommodate specific tasks and routines as well as provide the kind of system information displays and responses that had proven desirable in our legacy system.”
Library.Solution features that staff members liked included its cataloging and collection management tools.
