DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS, June 7, 2002: Endeavor Information Systems announced today that Release 2.0 of ENCompass, its advanced digital system for managing e-content and digital collections plus full linking capabilities, is now commercially available. The latest version features multi-protocol (Z39.50, XML and HTTP) searching across resources, OpenURL-syntax support, fully customizable XSLT for the user interface, and increased navigation.
ENCompass is in place at 25 libraries around the world and includes ENCompass for Resource Access and ENCompass for Digital Collections, specific system offerings that address concentrated e-content or digital content needs, as well as LinkFinderPlus, the comprehensive linking system for all of the library's resources, regardless of software or information vendor.
The Broadest Searching Available
ENCompass goes beyond simple Z39.50 searching to include access via XML gateways and HTTP, significantly increasing the number of resources that can be accessed in a single search. ENCompass "federated searching" allows libraries to incorporate important resources that are not Z39.50-enabled such as publisher sites, e-book sites and popular non-commercial databases. This multi-protocol, federated searching gives libraries more value from all of their databases by keeping researchers in a single interface. By "virtually aggregating" content licensed from many vendors, all content is better utilized.
The ENCompass search interface uses a simple search box. Local customization via XML and server-side XSL lets the library be creative with the interface. Expanded search options, the ability to search a single resource or the whole collection, and advanced collection browsing features are also included in the ENCompass 2.0 release.
Endeavor's OpenURL Linking
LinkFinderPlus offers comprehensive linking for all of the library's resources, regardless of the software or information vendor. By employing the OpenURL protocol, LinkFinderPlus offers intuitive linking from citations to full-text, additional resources, and "more like this" extended services. Delivered with a pre-configured knowledge database of over 11,000 journals, LinkFinderPlus is fast and easy to implement and maintain.
ENCompass is a comprehensive solution for single-search access to commercial content, digital collections and the local OPAC—plus linking. The full solution includes ENCompass for Resource Access and ENCompass for Digital Collections, specific system offerings that address virtual aggregation of e-content or digital content needs. LinkFinderPlus is also available in the ENCompass Solution.
