Ocean County Public Library system migrates to Horizon Sunrise

Provo, Utah – Ocean County Public Library System in Toms Rivers New Jersey is migrating from their Dynix system to a Horizon Sunrise system from epixtech to take advantage of Horizon's flexibility, expanded functionality, and ease of use. The system will go live this summer, making Ocean County one of more than 150 epixtech customers who have migrated from the company's Dynix software to Horizon Sunrise.

“We were looking to keep pace with technology. We wanted to move to a Windows-based environment and were looking at products that would fit the bill for the 21st century,” says Christine E. Matteo, Chief Librarian.

Ocean County Public Library consists of 20 branches located throughout Ocean County, the state's fastest growing county. . The library serves the entire county with a total circulation of 4 million. For the past 14 years, Ocean County has been using Dynix. Faced with increasing demands for additional functionality and a Windows-based system, Ocean County began their selection process for a new system in early 2001.

The library invited a number of ILS vendors to showcase their systems, and, after close evaluation, narrowed the decision down to two. The next step in the process was to take an in-depth look at each module from the competing vendors, comparing them side-by-side. In the end, the decision was made to migrate to Horizon Sunrise.

“Overall,” says Matteo, “the staff preferred Horizon Sunrise over a competing system, and could not find significant advantages, benefits, or features which would justify switching vendors.”

A long track record of success and performance—both in terms of product and support personnel—was also a factor. “We have had a very good track record with epixtech over the past 14 years,” continues Matteo. “We have always been happy with the support that epixtech has given us. Their staff is knowledgeable, they understand libraries, and they are aware of our issues. They have always been there when we needed them.”
