HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - March 18, 2002 – The Montana Library Network (MLN), a rapidly growing statewide consortium serving Montana’s 744 libraries, has selected Sirsi Corporation’s UnicornConsorti@ Library Management System to provide an initial 17 libraries with easy online access to shared resources and services. According to Bruce Newell, MLN director, UnicornConsorti@ will enable MLN to meet the diverse needs of the academic, public, school, and special libraries that form its membership.
"In 2001, MLN began the process of selecting a integrated library system for housing the Montana Shared Catalog," Newell commented. "We were particularly interested in the degree to which vendors were able to meet our needs for support, general ILS functionality, data conversion, and training, as well as how satisfied existing customers were with the vendor’s staff and customer support.
"When we compared the responses to our RFP, each from vendors with integrated library systems, Sirsi’s UnicornConsorti@ clearly best met our needs. Sirsi’s customers obviously love the company and interact with each other generously - the personification of ’being good neighbors’ - the Sirsi system will do everything we want it to. We are confident we’ll get the support we need to make the Montana Shared Catalog a success for MLN libraries and their patrons," Newell concluded.
Established in 1999, The Montana Library Network (MLN) is a project of the Montana State Library, and the inspiration of the statewide multi-type Montana State Library Networking Task Force. Working as a partner with Montana libraries, MLN ensures the delivery of quality networked library materials and services to Montana citizens through standards-based library automation systems. MLN also facilitates networked access to information about Montana, such as newspaper indexes, local organization lists, Montana bibliography, and online museum collection catalogs.
