UK based law firm, Morgan Cole has chosen OLIB7 from Fretwell-Downing Informatics as their library management system. It will operate within a multi-site environment and provide a centralised information service to the whole firm.
As with any legal firm, Morgan Cole is a heavy user of loose-leaf publications so the fact that the new serials module within OLIB7 has specific functionality designed for the management of loose-leafs means that they will be able to use the system without the need for major modifications.
OLIB7 will play a major role in enabling Morgan Cole to progress with the process of harmonisation of cataloguing standards following a recent series of mergers. The management and reporting tools within OLIB7 will also provide the firm with more in-depth information about their users, which in turn will help with future budgeting issues.
Commenting on why Morgan Cole chose OLIB7, Sue Cleave, Legal Resources Manager comments: "Our chosen system had to integrate well with our other applications and in particular needed to work over the Intranet. OLIB7's web-enabled user interface needed no further development and requires only limited training for end-users. In design terms - we wanted a system that was uncluttered and functional. It had to have the right balance between being reasonably ready to use 'out of the box', but also of being capable of configuration by our librarians without requiring regular IT assistance.
"Having established our short-list, the clinching factor was that OLIB7's sequence of operations followed what our Librarians felt was a logical progression, not one dictated by technical considerations.
" Cleave concludes: "So far as suppliers were concerned - we were looking for partners that we could work with, a well established enterprise who would still be there a few years down the line and one with high standards of professionalism. We found FDI very friendly, well able to answer our detailed questions and efficient in their dealings with us."
