John Ware, the Chairman of the Board of epixtech, inc., announced today that Lana Porter, CEO and president, will assume the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of epixtech effective January 1, 2002. The Board of epixtech will initiate a national search to fill the CEO/President position.

According to Ware, "Lana has been an invaluable asset to the Board in helping establish epixtech as an independent company since we acquired the business from Ameritech in 1999. Prior to the acquisition, Lana led Ameritech Library Services through three years of continued growth and increased profitability. When she came to the Board earlier this year and asked to take on a new role within the company, we knew that we wanted her to remain involved and to help us to continue growing the company. We are pleased that she has agreed to become Vice Chairman."

Ware indicated that the Board would be initiating the search for Porter's replacement over the next few weeks. “We want to find the right person to continue the growth of the business and support epixtech's innovation and service to its worldwide customer base,” he added. “This schedule should give us time to find that right person and insure a smooth transition.”

In her new role as Vice Chairman, Porter will focus on many areas of the business, including business development and the international expansion of epixtech. “This is a good time for me to assume new responsibilities and to assist the incoming CEO in continuing the company's growth initiatives,” Porter explained. “I have enjoyed the challenges of transitioning epixtech to a private company and have accomplished the goals I originally set. I'm pleased that the Board has asked me to assume this role and look forward to working with them and with the new CEO.”

Porter was with Ameritech for more than 23 years, starting her career in sales and marketing at Ohio Bell Telephone in Columbus, Ohio. She was involved in the establishment of Ameritech when the Bell network was divided in 1983. Porter held several executive positions within Ameritech. Those roles included running the first outsourcing program in partnership with IBM-RealCom, establishing the first cellular project in Poland in partnership with France Telecom and the PTT, and managing the first acquisition in the library field when Ameritech purchased the Local Systems division from OCLC.

She assumed the CEO position at Ameritech Library Services in the fall of 1996 and led the sale of the business in 1999. She has been very involved in the library industry and dedicated to the development of leadership in libraries to help them become the central focus for the information needs of the communities they serve.

She is the current Vice President of FOLUSA, (the Friends of the Library USA national board), serves on advisory boards of the Leadership Institute at Snowbird, Northern Exposure Leadership Program in Canada, Library Champions of ALA, netLibrary, the Information Systems Department at Florida State University, and the Business School at St Francis University at Joliet, Illinois. She serves on the national board of Leadership America and the Board of Trustees for University of Detroit-Mercy.
