August 8, 2001— Innovative Interfaces, a leader in information technology for libraries, announced that it will inaugurate the "Be Innovative!" Awards to recognize excellence and innovation in its partner libraries' use of Innovative systems.
The awards, to be given at the annual Innovative Users Group (IUG) meeting in Houston in April, 2002, will be in the following categories:
- Best Web OPAC
- Best Local Database
- Best Staff Instruction Process or Training Program
- Most Creative Use of Staff Modules
According to Jerry Kline, Innovative's President and CEO, "In thousands of libraries around the world, Innovative systems are being put to innovative uses. We want to recognize the innovation of our partner libraries and, in the process, facilitate a sharing of best practices among them. The enthusiasm these awards have already generated is indicative of the creativity and vitality of our user group. I expect we'll receive many entries."
Winners will be honored at the IUG meeting and presented with a prize from Innovative Interfaces.
The Innovative Users Group began meeting in 1985. It is an independent and international organization of member libraries that use systems from Innovative Interfaces and is led by a steering committee whose members are elected by the general membership. Each year it hosts an international conference of over a thousand users who participate in over 100 sessions pertaining to Innovative systems.
