PROVO, UT—epixtech, the world's leader in library automation systems, and N2H2 Solutions, specialists in fast and scalable web management solutions, have partnered to offer Internet management options to epixtech customers. Many libraries are seeking flexible options in response to community requirements for web management. N2H2 Solutions' web management service allows libraries to provide patrons with Web access and, at the same time, gives them the flexibility to choose exactly what materials should be offered based on the library's use policies.
A unique aspect of the partnership is the option to combine epixtech's Remote Patron Authentication (RPA) product and N2H2's web management services. The integration of RPA gives libraries the option of providing adult patrons an override to managed access, if library policy allows.
According to Craig Blessing, Vice President of Sales at N2H2, "Libraries are the key to providing equal information access to every citizen in the country. The Internet provides individuals with access far beyond the confines of the physical library. Unfortunately, the quest for information that has merit and value is sometimes derailed by the intrusion of blatantly objectionable material. This is especially true when it comes to children using the Internet. Even the most innocent search terms such as ‘teen jobs' or ‘Barbie Doll' can return results that are far different from the subject matter that was being sought. N2H2 makes sure the library patron gets the information he or she wants, without being lambasted by offensive material."
Lana Porter, President and CEO of epixtech, sees this as an important opportunity. "Librarians have historically worked tirelessly to avail their patrons of all the information available. This web management service will not stop that, but instead it will ensure that library patrons get the information they want, but not what they may find offensive. epixtech, by integrating N2H2's product, will now have the ability to provide this service. In the wake of CIPA, many of our customers have been clamoring for this ability and will be very happy that we are now providing it."
