Syracuse, N.Y.—Cooperative Libraries Automated Network in Carson City, Nev., announced it has accepted Gaylord Information System's Polaris, the leader in 3rd generation library automation systems. The Cooperative Libraries Automated Network, known as CLAN, is made up of 40 libraries and more than 200 users.

In accepting Polaris, CLAN coordinator Dana Hines stated, “CLAN appreciates the dedication and efforts made by Gaylord Information Systems in making Polaris a ‘state of the art' solution for our libraries. We chose Polaris because we were looking for a library application program that would continue to evolve as technology grew. It is evident we made the right choice.”

Polaris recently released a new version of its software called 1.5 with more than 140 new product features, including a redesigned search engine which makes searching faster and more precise. A special feature of Polaris 1.5 is OneView™, which allows users to screen headings, and bibliographic and item level information on one screen.

As a Microsoft Certified Systems Provider, Gaylord Information System's Polaris offers workstation-based Windows 9X, 2000 and NT staff services with integrated cataloging, serials, acquisitions, circulations, patron/student services and system administration functionality. Polaris's PAC allows patrons to access the library's catalog and personal information 24 hours a day, seven days a week using any Internet browser.

Gaylord Information Systems is a Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider and the 25-year-old software development division of Gaylord, a leading supplier to the library industry for more than a century. In addition to its library automation systems, GIS offers workflow analysis, retrospective conversion and database enhancement services to libraries of all types.
