MINNEAPOLIS, MN. August 24, 2000. Sagebrush Corporation, a solutions provider for the library and education markets, has released 1999 sales figures for its library automation products. Sagebrush Corporation sales figures listed in an article in Library Journal, "Automated System Marketplace 2000" by Jeff Barry, did not include both of Sagebrush's automation programs. The article listed only Athena sales, rather than combined Athena and Winnebago Spectrum salesóboth of which are developed and sold by Sagebrush Corporation.
According to company figures, 6508 Sagebrush library automation systems were sold in 1999, 1084 more than second-place Follett. The number of systems in use reported for Sagebrush was also incomplete, listing only Athena systems. The total number of Sagebrush systems in use is actually 23,406.
Eric Johnson, Sagebrush Senior Vice President of Sales and Field Operations, said, "Sagebrush's leadership in library systems sales shows what a strong, customer-focused company we are. We put customer needs first while providing high-quality products and first-rate customer support. We're proud of our #1 ranking and grateful to our customers for choosing Sagebrush products and services."
Now available in version 8.1, Athena is a fully integrated library automation system that combines circulation, catalog searching, cataloging, union catalog, and inventory functions in a complete system. Athena offers several innovative features that give libraries greater flexibility and power, such as the ability to handle multiple collections, allowing librarians to keep equipment and other collections separate from main circulating items. First released in 1994, Athena was one of the first library automation systems to take advantage of Windows technology, and has been rated highly by the American Library Association's (ALA) Library Technology Reports (LTR).
