After thorough evaluation, Lund University Library announced their decision today to migrate their library system from VTLS 99 to Virtua ILS – Integrated Library Systems. The University library, located in Lund, Sweden, has been a VTLS Inc. customer since 1989.
The Lund University account consists of 12 academic libraries on and off the campus. To effectively manage over 4 million item records within these libraries, Lund University has chosen to implement a consortium database, originally developed by VTLS to meet the diverse needs of consortia and large libraries with multiple branches. Currently, Lund University maintains a union catalog with 12 separate databases for each of their libraries. VTLS' innovative consortium database, however, eases the workflow by allowing the University libraries to efficiently maintain a single database and share resources while still allowing the libraries to keep selected information private.
As one of Sweden's oldest and most prestigious libraries, Lund University has chosen Virtua ILS with a 384-user license to accommodate over 50,000 patrons. The library consortium has a vast collection including academic resources, historical works, classic literature and research journals.
Virtua ILS is a third generation library automation solution based on three-tier client-server technology. Virtua ILS runs under UNIX using the Oracle DBMS with WindowsÔ and WWW-based clients.
