Ex Libris continues record of sites going live on-time and on-budget!

Abstract: Ex Libris announced that two more sites went live in the month of August on their ALEPH 500 systems the University of Iowa and Brandon University. This continues the trend of Ex Libris installations that have been installed on time and on budget.


Ex Libris (USA) is pleased to announce that two more sites went live in the month of August on their ALEPH 500 systems the University of Iowa and Brandon University. This continues the trend of Ex Libris installations that have been installed on time and on budget. Both installations were the result of the commitment of staff at the Universities and at Ex Libris to the project(s) goals.

"We are pleased to have Brandon University and the University of Iowa fully utilizing their ALEPH 500 systems," said Carl Grant, President of Ex Libris (USA), "As other libraries evaluate their options, they'll be pleased to know that Ex Libris represents a choice that means the new services and functionality will be available as promised to the users of their library."

Larry Woods, Director of Information Technology Head at the University of Iowa said; "Ex Libris staff worked hard to effect a successful implementation. Everyone at Iowa is both pleased and impressed with ALEPH 500."

Terry Mitchell, Brandon University Librarian, said: "We are excited about the improved functionality and access to external databases which ALEPH provides, and we are very pleased with the support we received from Ex Libris during installation."

About Brandon University

Founded in 1900 as Brandon College and today known as Brandon University, this academic institution is located in Brandon, Manitoba. The school serves a population of 2700 students, 250 faculty and staff and 23 librarians and support staff. The University library contains 450,000 books, serial volumes, scores, videos and sound recordings and 1,000,000 microforms. The library has 1,000 active serial subscriptions. The new ALEPH 500 system runs on a SUN E250 processor and supports 50 users. The library converted from BuCAT system that was developed at Brandon University.

About University of Iowa

The University of Iowa Libraries consists of a Main Library, 11 branch libraries and a Law Library. The library, an ARL member, has holdings of nearly four million bound volumes and an annual operating budget of over $18M. The school, founded in 1847, is located in Iowa City and has an enrollment of over 28,000. The ALEPH 500 system replaces a NOTIS system. The ALEPH 500 system runs on an IBM RS/6000, S70 system, supporting 500 concurrent users.
