Berkeley, CA - May 28, 1991 - A materials booking module is now available with the Innovative Interfaces INNOPAC system. The booking module accepts reservations for library materials (books, films, phonograph records, etc.), equipment (projectors and VCRs), and facilities (meeting rooms and classrooms). Innovative now offers the online catalog, circulation, acquisitions, serials control, and booking modules, making it the most complete library automation system in the marketplace.
The College of DuPage Learning Resources Center (LRC) in Glen Ellyn, Illinois is the first library to install the new booking module. "We have been planning a fully integrated system with all five modules for several years," said Bob Veihman, Associate Dean of the LRC. "We're excited because the installation of the booking module makes our system complete."
Mary Buckley, Audio Visual Services Coordinator at the DuPage LRC, is managing the transition from a manual system that has averaged more than 1000 bookings per week. "The booking system will simplify our lives tremendously because all the information we need about films, videos, and equipment will be available to us in a single automated system," Buckley said.
The LRC plans to use the booking module to coordinate bookings for 5000 films and videos in the main collection, 3500 popular videos, several hundred pieces of equipment, and two media classrooms located in the LRC. The logistics are complex because drivers must be scheduled to deliver and pick up booked materials throughout campus, to two off-campus satellite centers, and to 25 other locations in the community. "We will be able to schedule trips more efficiently with the ability to sort bookings by time and location," Buckley said.
The materials booking module is fully integrated with all other INNOPAC modules. Booked items may -- or may not, at the library's option -- appear in the public catalog. And when a booking is placed for a patron, INNOPAC checks the circulation module's "loan rule" table to be sure that a particular type of item may be booked for a particular type of patron.
