Woburn, MA—Inmagic, Inc., the leading developer of library automation software for special libraries, and Information Transform, Inc., the developer of MITINET/marc software, announce the availability of the MARC Transformer for Windows. The product is designed to streamline the process of creating an online catalog.
The MARC Transformer eliminates the need to manually enter bibliographic and serials information because it translates files in MARC communications format directly into ASCII files, which can then be loaded into an Inmagic DB/TextWorks database. Additionally, users can convert information exported from a DB/TextWorks database into the MARC format, enabling an easy exchange of data with other libraries.
According to Information Transform's Hank Epstein, excellent feedback from field testers helped shape the product. "Many of the field testers provided us with samples of MARC records Lheyve confronted, including many not-quite-standard forms of MARC records that we'd never seen before from vendors, other agencies, web sites and library automation systems. We were able to add additional features to the Transformer to accommodate these records in most cases."
The MARC Transformer, priced at US$250, is sold exclusively by Inmagic, Inc. and its Authorized Business Partners. Technical support is provided by Information Transform, with one free hour of initial support included in the purchase price.
Founded in 1983, Inmagic is a leading developer of software for special libraries. A companion Library Guide provides a ready-to-use framework for automating a library while maintaining flexibility.
