SHANGHAI, People's Republic of China. Shanghai University recently selected epixtech's Horizon system as their library automation solution. Horizon is to be implemented in time for the opening of the new Library in September this year.

Shanghai University amalgamated in 1994 from four separate institutions: the Shanghai University of Technology, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Univesrity and Shanghai Science and Technology College. With the reintegration of these four institutions into one entity, Shanghai University now has over 20,000 students, 6,500 staff, 55 specialties for undergraduate studies and more than 71 programs at the master's, doctorate, and post-doctorate level. Shanghai University is one of the 100 universities throughout mainland China who have been accepted into the prestigious "211" Higher Education Project.

The University has just completed a spectacular new Library building to service the University population. The new Library building covers almost 38,000 square meters and houses over two million volumes.

"We selected epixtech's Horizon system because it is an advanced, open and standardized system." said Professor Zheng Yanheng, Senior Consultant of Shanghai University Library. "We believe the cooperation between Shanghai University Libraries and epixtech will be successful."

"We are very excited to have an institution with the high standards and prestige of Shanghai University as one of our customers," said Bob Claxton, Director, Sales & Marketing Asia Pacific for epixtech in Australia. "Shanghai University Library, as well as several other leading university libraries in China, have chosen Horizon because it provides a framework for long-term viability through a client-server solution that incorporates Unicode functionality."

Lana Porter, President/CEO of epixtech, inc. echoed Mr. Claxton's words. "Thanks to a strong library automation system and a good sales and support staff in Asia, epixtech has been able to automate many libraries in that area, all of which have been very satisfied by both our product and our dedication to the libraries who are automated by it. We look forward to a continued productive and long partnership with Shanghai University Library."

epixtech Pty Ltd welcomes Shanghai University to its growing family of clients in China. Other customers include Shanghai Jiao Tung University, Fudan University, South China University of Technology, Zhejiang University and the Shanghai Public Library.
