McHenry, IL -- May 15, 1995 -- Follett Software Company has forged a strategic relationship with Library Systems and Services (LSSI) to bring greater cataloging options to Follett customers who are also LSSI LOANnet users. The new LSSI LOANnet Connection product integration, available with the Unison design of Catalog Plus, allows access to the LSSI Union CD-ROM for users to maintain and develop their bibliographic databases, just as they would with the Follett Alliance Plus CD-ROM MARC database product.
Using the Follett cataloging module, customers in Texas, Florida, and Louisiana may directly access statewide collections data through the LSSI Union CD-ROM. The many MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloging) records made available through LSSI help simplify ongoing cataloging, retrospective conversions and automated retrospective conversions.
Adding the records of LSSI dramatically reduces the amount of time spent on original catalog entry, by giving catalogers the added option of using the LSSI CD-ROM in conjunction with Catalog Plus and Alliance Plus. The automated retrospective conversion ("recon") process matches local database records against MARC records on the LSSI LOANet CD-ROM. As new materials arrive, users easily search the LSSI CD-ROM to pull MARC records into the local system; additional local information can then be added in a few more steps.
The connection between Follett and LSSI adds value to the library's investment in both companies' products. Together, Follett and LSSI bring a solid partnership, providing quality service and products. And the combination of Follett software and LSSI databases allows customers the greatest opportunity to recon their collections.
