Follett Software Company combines training and software for customers to become technically self-supporting

McHenry, ILLINOIS -- May 15, 1995 -- Follett Software Company's Support Certification program enables library automation customers to find many of their own technical solutions. The program combines a five-day training session with an optional software package that together contain much of the knowledge available to Follett staff.

Certified customers can now use the same software with which Follett support staff works. First Level Support, a problem resolution database from Bendata of Colorado Springs, helps determine solutions to various technical issues. Follett sells discounted copies of First Level Support to customers who participate in Support Certification programs.

"When customers buy the software, they've already gotten an abbreviated version of the training our analysts receive," says John Dierker, Director of Follett Software Company's Technical Support Department. "We provide them with our database and then they're responsible for supporting their end users. They have much of the knowledge of our senior analysts, and they can still escalate to us if they run into problems."

Support Certification makes it possible for media specialists with some amount of technical expertise to substantially reduce their support costs by providing some or all of the support for their systems themselves. Fees for additional support options can be discounted by as much as forty percent for customers who complete Support Certification.

The Support Certification program consists of 5 8-hour days of training, with a choice of 2 optional seminars and an open lab each evening. By the end of 1995, approximately 400 Follett Software customers will have completed Support Certification.
