Provo, Utah—On March 13 and 14, 2000, epixtech, inc. hosted a visit from representatives of several European libraries, including the Swedish National Union Catalogue, the Danish State Library and the Baden-Wuerttemberg Consortium. There were 17 visitors, including the Chairman of the LIBRIS Board Jan-Erik Nordstrand and Harald Gall, Minister of the Arts from Baden-Wuerttemberg.
The visitors spent two full days with senior development and project management staff at epixtech, inc., discussing cooperative ventures. LIBRIS is the collective name of several bibliographic services offered by the LIBRIS Department of the Royal Library (Sweden). Its most representative service is the LIBRIS database, with more than 7 million titles representing the holdings of approximately 180 Swedish Libraries.
LIBRIS purchased the Horizon library automation system in 1998 from German supplier Dynix GmbH. "The Horizon system," according to Dr. Mats Herder, Head of Development for LIBRIS, "Is especially adapted for the needs of regional and national catalogues and has strengthened the Swedish Library cooperation." The other European libraries, which were hosted at epixtech in March, are also epixtech customers and have been equally impressed with the benefits to their libraries.
Kate Noerr, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at epixtech, characterized the visit. "Although our European visitors knew a great deal about our library automation systems, it always helps our customers when they visit our facilities. There they can see the dedication of the people, how extensive our operations are, and the scope of the staff that is available to help with support. It's one thing to have the system, but it's another to know what the facility behind the system is."
In addition to the discussions, the European visitors were treated to a series of demonstrations of epixtech's new products. These included RSS and URSA, iPAC and iLibrary. "They were particularly impressed by iPAC and iLibrary and the future capabilities these products could add to their organizations," explains Ms. Noerr. "There are so many possibilities for cooperative ventures among our European customers. It was wonderful to show them everything epixtech can do for them in this setting, with all our facilities available for their close inspection."
