Abstract: Ex Libris, Ltd., announced that along with Sun Microsystems, Inc., Oracle Corporation, and SilverPlatter Information, Inc., it would be donating a completely implemented ALEPH 500 library automation system to the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Ex Libris, Ltd., announced today that along with Sun Microsystems, Inc., Oracle Corporation, and SilverPlatter Information, Inc., it would be donating a completely implemented ALEPH 500 library automation system to the Royal University of Phnom Penh. This system will be complemented by an ERL Intranet solution from SilverPlatter Information, Inc.

Azriel Morag, Chairman of Ex Libris, said after a recent trip to Southeast Asia, "I was greatly impressed by the country and its people but saddened to find that the educational infrastructure needs to be completely rebuilt. Then and there I decided that I must take action and initiate an effort to improve the educational conditions in Cambodia."

After discussions with the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Mr. Morag began to work out the logistics and develop partnerships for the implementation of the comprehensive ALEPH library system. Joining the project, Sun Microsystems is donating an Enterprise 250 server, SilverPlatter is contributing the Medline and ERIC databases, and Oracle is providing a run-time license for all users of the system. The ALEPH system will be tightly integrated with SilverPlatter's ERL Intranet Solution, which also runs on Sun's Enterprise 250 server.

In addition to the license to use the ALEPH software, Ex Libris will install the system and provide training, maintenance, and support without charge.

Mr. Pit Chamnan, Rector of the Royal University commented, "We Cambodians are a determined people. We are actively rebuilding our country with pride and hard work. This gift was a total surprise, and we are enormously grateful. We had never imagined that the Royal University would be able to provide our students and staff with the finest library system in the world. Our sincere thanks to Ex Libris, Sun, SilverPlatter, and Oracle, and a special thanks to Mr. Morag, who recognized a need and so generously contributed company resources and, more importantly, his personal time and commitment."
