Swets & Zeitlinger B.V. of Lisse and ADLIB Information Systems B.V. of Utrecht have concluded an agreement to ensure the future development and maintenance of SAILS, Swets serials management software package.

ADLIB, through their UK sister company ADLIB Information Systems Ltd. of Swindon, will take over the existing SAILS product. This includes responsibility for support and maintenance of the current SAILS customer base of around 50. As part of the agreement the existing SAILS technical personnel will transfer to ADLIB Information Systems Ltd. where they will provide continuity of support for existing customers.

For the future, ADLIB will use their ADLIB Information Management Database to create a new generation SAILS for Windows system. This will take the existing comprehensive SAILS functionality and in place it in the new Windows 32-bit and Web enabled environments. The new system will be available as both a 'stand-alone' single or multi-user system or as a part of the integrated ADLIB Library Management application.

Bert Degenhart Drenth, Director of ADLIB, said: "We believe that this arrangement benefits both SAILS and ADLIB customers, and therefore makes sense for both Swets and ADLIB. SAILS customers are assured of ongoing support and of a migration path to a new generation of product. ADLIB customers will benefit from the improvements to serials management functionality and expertise coming from SAILS staff and product."

Pieter Rustenburg, Chairman of the Executive Board of Swets and Zeitlinger said: "We are delighted to have found a reliable and innovative partner who will continue to offer high quality support to our existing customers, whilst taking the product into the next generation of serials management."
