McHENRY, ILLINOIS -- January 2, 1995 -- Follett Software Company, the leading supplier of microcomputer library software in America, now introduces circulation and catalog software for the Macintosh.

With more than 23,000 installations of its MS-DOS circulation management software, Circulation Plus, Follett now brings to market a circulation program made expressly for the Macintosh. MacCirculation Plus is a complete MARC library management system for circulations, inventory, overdues, and statistical reports, offering the easy-to-use interface that is known to Macintosh. It utilizes barcode labels and a barcode scanner for efficient circulations, comes with easy-to-follow manuals, and works within an Apple Share or Novell NetWare for the Macintosh environment.

Follett Software also introduces MacCatalog Plus, an on-line public access catalog made for the Macintosh. MacCatalog plus is fully integrated and MARC-based, providing a common database for cataloging functions and on-line searches. The program enables users to search in six fields, including Title, Author, Call Number, Subject, Series, and Keyword, using the friendly Macintosh interface. MacCatalog Plus is also available for AppleShare or Novell NetWare for the Macintosh in the multiuser version.

"We recognize many schools and libraries are working in a Macintosh environment and are pleased to offer versions of our flagship circulation and catalog management software designed specifically for the Macintosh," says Charles (Chuck) R. Follett, president of the 275-person Follett Software Company. "Now, whether institutions operate in a Macintosh or MS-DOS environment, or a combination of the two, Follett Software has the ideal automation solution."

MacCirculation Plus and MacCatalog Plus are appropriate for both large and small libraries. They operate together or independently and offer many of the same features as their established MS-DOS counterparts, Circulation Plus and Catalog Plus. Common features of both MacCirculation Plus and MacCatalog Plus include USMARC format compatibility; a shared database for catalog functions and on-line database; a cataloging module with descriptive MARC tags; multilevel security; and the ability to provide statistical reports and copy-specific information, such as barcode number, acquisition date and circulation type. In addition, MacCirculation Plus offers common circulation tasks on one screen, user-defined categories which aid curriculum development, and an events calendar. And MacCatalog Plus offers the ability to print bibliographies, identify book or copy material status, and perform truncated or partial searches.

The first releases of MacCirculation Plus and MacCatalog Plus will be available during first quarter, 1995.
