DUBLIN, OHIO, SEPT. 22, 1997 -- Information Dimensions, Inc., a leading provider of web-enabled document management solutions, is bringing document management to the Middle East by providing the technology for a new Egyptian Army intranet and by signing two new distributors for the company's BASIS document management product suite.
The new distributors, Atallah Systems of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Shamma Computers of the United Arab Emirates, will complement the work of one of Information Dimensions' fastest-growing distributors in the region, GIZA Systems Engineering, which recently installed a document-driven intranet system for the Egyptian armed forces.
"Information Dimensions delivered the first document management product for the Arabic language. So we know first hand the tremendous potential the Middle East holds for our future growth as more organizations see the value of tapping the knowledge in their large, multilingual collections of complex documents," said Bill Forquer, president of Information Dimensions. "We're very pleased to be represented in the Middle East by Atallah and Shamma, who have earned solid reputations for professionalism by establishing strong ties with local businesses and government."
Arab distributors are discovering that BASIS and TECHLIB for Arabic, released in 1996, are becoming the preferred solution for companies that need such high-powered document management functions as full-text searching, tracking, version control, security, document integrity and automated publishing features.
Egyptian Army Latest Win for GIZA
Cairo-based GIZA Systems Engineering designed, created and implemented two very large database-supported web sites for the Egyptian Army's Office of Morale Affairs in January 1997. GIZA completed the multilingual project, which has become the web site standard for the country's armed forces, in less than 14 months.
One of the web sites is a secured home page for internal Egyptian Army use that monitors media coverage and provides analysis of that coverage in both English and Arabic. The second site is similar, but contains more general unclassified information. Both sites are accessible 24 hours a day by military personnel via local Internet web browsers.
"Building systems of this magnitude and importance is a remarkable achievement for any company, but standard operating procedure for GIZA," Forquer said. "It's easy to see why they've become the premier software and solution provider in Egypt."
Windows NT now Available for Arabic Version of BASIS
The Arabic version of the BASIS document management system now runs on Windows NT, providing BASIS customers with UNIX's brand of high-end server and management capabilities as well as true portability across diverse hardware architectures. They also get Windows NT ease of installation, administration and management. In addition, BASIS now supports a three-tier architecture with Windows NT that allows users to combine their investments in legacy systems with the convenience of standard web browsers to create, index, search and retrieve business-critical documents.
