DUBLIN, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1997 - Information Dimensions, Inc., a leading provider of web-enabled document management solutions, is expanding its ability to convert multiple file formats into HTML by integrating Inso's Outside In HTML Export software. Working with the BASIS Desktop Client Suite, users will be able to check-in over 250 file types into a document collection and the Inso software will automatically convert them "on the fly" to HTML for immediate access by any Web browser.
HTML Export from Inso extends the range of document and application types that can be immediately available to users. For example, a business manager who is making both Word documents and Excel spreadsheets available on a company intranet will not have to do time-consuming conversion of these different file types-once the user checks the files in the BASIS repository this conversion will happen immediately. For BASIS users who have already started using Microsoft's Office97 product suite, this new capability will address all the new formats available within that office suite, including Word 97 and Excel 97.
"Information Dimensions has licensed HTML Export as a replacement for Verity's KEYview technology. Inso's HTML Export functionality has been specifically designed for integration into complex and sophisticated applications like our BASIS' document management system," says George Shemas, vice-president of product development at Information Dimensions. "This new tool delivers major new functionality for our web customers who need total flexibility in building robust applications. With our integration, customers will eliminate the need for timely and costly conversion, plus be able to handle all the formats a corporation wants to add to a repository."
"Adding the Outside In HTML Export functionality will make non-HTML data easily available from any Web browser," says Scott Norder, Vice President and General Manager of Inso Midwest.
"Information Dimensions has already done an outstanding job of integrating our linguistic and search enhancement tools. This addition will certainly make their core offering a more comprehensive and competitive document management system in the Web space."
The new capability will be available with BASIS Version 8.2, which will be available by the end of 1997. Version 8.1 is available now for Windows NT and UNIX environments. BASIS Intranet Solution features an integration with both Microsoft Internet Information Server and Netscape's Enterprise Server.
