Arlington, Virginia, March 2, 1998 - Information Dimensions, Inc. (IDI), a leading provider of web-enabled document and library management solutions will be demonstrating its technical library products at the 13th Annual Computers in Libraries '98 conference being held at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, March 1-5, 1998. Featured this year will be BASIS TECHLIB, a new generation integrated library system that uses a browser-based interface to library administrative modules as well as the online catalog.
Carol Knoblauch, library solution architect at Information Dimensions, says Computers in Libraries programs offer a strong focus on Intranets, virtual libraries and knowledge management. Accordingly, it is the perfect venue to introduce BASIS TECHLIB. "The library of the future requires an infrastructure to manage digital documents, Internet resources, multimedia, as well as traditional print materials. BASIS TECHLIB provides the technology foundation to meet the rapidly changing requirements of the digital library."
Information Dimensions President Bill Forquer, who met today with library analysts and media attending the conference, notes that Information Dimensions has been working with special librarians for more than 10 years. "It is exciting for us to see them evolve from caretakers of information to key partners in managing enterprise knowledge. Many of our customers already use the BASIS WEBserver to extend enterprise-wide desktop access beyond the library shelves, to external and internal technical, research and collaboration knowledge bases. BASIS TECHLIB moves company and organization librarians another step forward by enabling them to manage these resources -- as well as daily library operations -- all from their browser."
Information Dimensions will host a reception to provide customers and prospects with an in depth look at the new product. The event is scheduled for Monday, March 2 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Marriott Courtyard Crystal City. Current customers will have the opportunity to see the new interface available for their TECHLIBplus system. BASIS TECHLIB uses the same database as TECHLIBplus, so no conversion is necessary to embrace the new technology. Information Dimensions understands the significant investment in database creation and has provided a continuous path to new versions and new products.
