(Carlsbad, CA - Sept. 16, 1994) -- Data Trek, Inc. today announces the Professional Series Version 2.1, a major upgrade tote full MARC library automation product line. The Professional Series Version 2.1 is planned for release in the fourth quarter, 1994 and is free to Professional Series clients with active Software Support Subscriptions.
Over 150 enhancements will be added to the Professional Series Version 2.1, directly based on the ideas, comments and suggestions from Data Trek, Inc. clients. Many of the top enhancements were voted on by Professional Series clients in a survey published in Data Trek's bi-monthly technical newsletter for clients.
"Data Trek, Inc. is pleased to provide continued feature-rich products to libraries worldwide," said CEO, Scot Cheatham. "Our clients indicated these enhancements were important to help them provide better services to their users, and we're proud that Version 2.1 of the Professional Series is the automation system to help them achieve their ongoing library needs." Professional Series, first released in 1991, is a user-friendly, microcomputer-based automation software package designed to meet the latest library automation standards. It strictly adheres to full MARC standards, as well as X12, SISAC and BISAC standards. Professional Series imports, exports, stores and edits full MARC records.
Professional Series Version 2.1 enhancements are provided for Cataloging, Circulation, Serials, Acquisitions, OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog), and GoPAC (Graphical OPAC) modules.
Major new global features include library-specified system management of call number spacing, European or other date format options, additional user authorization levels, multi-copy picklists for multiple items connected to the bibliographic records, automatic deletion approval control in the Bibliographic file, laser printing of all Cataloging labels, improved label printing capability, and much more.
Data Trek's Professional Series includes Cataloging, Circulation, Serials, Acquisitions, Databridge (MARC import/export tool), OPAC, the award-winning (GoPAC, and ImageLink (which imports and links scanned images such as maps, photographs, illustrations, etc. to your bibliographic records). Modules can stand-alone or integrate into one, sophisticated system.
With the growing importance of automation standards and collection sharing among libraries, strict adherence to international library standards is one of the most attractive features in the Professional Series. Another attractive feature is price. This affordable and powerful product line operates on a microcomputer IBM-compatible hardware platform, so there are no expensive maintenance costs associated with mainframe and mini systems. Full MARC capability allows users to import, export, store and edit complete MARC records without any loss of MARC data.
In addition to the Professional Series, Data Trek, Inc. produces two other library automation product lines: the Manager Series, a MARC compatible product line with over a decade of user refinement; and the School Series, an easy-to-use integrated software package that provides a comprehensive automation solution for school libraries.
Data Trek, Inc., founded in 1981, is a privately-held software company that produces and markets microcomputer turnkey library automation systems. Located in Carlsbad, Calif., Data Trek, Inc. also has 19 offices and affiliates worldwide to serve over 3,300 clients in all types of libraries.
