New Orleans, LA -- January 15, 1998, CASPR Library systems announced, at the American Library Association conference, the licensing of its LibraryNet Pro WEB database retrieval system to AmeriMarc, Inc. Using LibraryNet Pro, AmeriMarc has announced the TradeMARC online MARC retrieval service. TradeMARC provides easy and low cost access to millions of high quality MARC records.

"TradeMARC is designed for the thousands of small to medium sized libraries throughout the country that would benefit from an inexpensive way to access and share MARC records. TradeMARC is a great alternative to expensive MARC CD-ROM subscriptions. It provides a low-cost and effective method for groups of libraries to share MARC records through TradeMARC's web-based union catalog" said Edward Leonard, AmeriMarc co-founder.

TradeMARC enables its members to access over 8 million Library of Congress and custom MARC records using standard WEB browsers. The only technical requirements for using the system are a web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) and a connection to the Internet. Members interactively search the TradeMARC database using standard fields like LCCN, ISBN, author and title. Selected records are placed in a "shopping basket" that can be downloaded to the member's computer at the end of the TradeMARC session. Charges apply only to downloaded records.

"The ability to access and download high quality MARC records from a central location and at a low cost is a very exciting use of the WEB technology. No longer does a librarian have to resort to purchasing expensive CD-ROM products, or enlist the services of high cost catalog jobbers," said Norman Kline, President of CASPR Library Systems.

Headquartered in San Jose, CA, CASPR provides advanced information management products to the library community. Over 8,000 libraries of all types use CASPR's integrated library management programs, which include: LibraryWorld˘, LibraryWorks˘, the Columbia Library System ˘ and LibraryNet. CASPR also provides a wide range of commercial tools that allow third party developers to build WEB and CD-ROM products for the library community.

LibraryWorld, LibraryWorks, LibraryNet Pro, the Columbia Library System are trademarks of CASPR Library Systems, Inc. TradeMARC is a trademark of AmeriMarc Inc. Their respective owners own all other mark.
