New Orleans, LA, Spring, 1999 — CASPR Library Systems, Inc., is bringing public domain MARC records to you for free with its new FreeMARC cataloging feature on LibraryCom.
LibraryCom is CASPR's Library Web Hosting and Directory Service. The new service, called FreeMARC, provides access to over 1.8 million MAchine Readable Catalog records (MARC) licensed from the Library of Congress.
FreeMARC allows for very fast searching by title, author, ISBN or LCCN fields. Once a record is found, it is simply ‘tagged' and placed in a holding area. After you have tagged the records you want to download, simply click on the GET MARC button and all the records will be transferred to your computer in one file. The MARC standard is universally accepted by all popular library systems.
"One of the most expensive components of automating or keeping a library online is the costs of retrospective conversion and cataloging new entries," said Norman Kline, President and CEO of CASPR. "FreeMARC is what the WEB is all about. Libraries can now catalog their collections quickly and inexpensively without paying for manual input or CD-ROMS," continued Kline.
