Huntsville, Alabama - Sirsi Corporation is pleased to announce that the Unicorn Collection Management System will be installed at Odessa College's Murry H. Fly Learning Resources Center located in Odessa, Texas.
In addition to the bibliographic and inventory control module, the library has licensed the academic reserves, authority control, circulation, enhanced public access, and serials control modules. The Unicorn system will be installed on an IBM RISC System/6000 host computer that serves as the campus mainframe, making the system available campus-wide. Dr. Clayton Aired, Associate Dean, felt that Sirsi best matched the library's needs. "We were very impressed by the performance of the Unicorn system, especially the ease of operation."
Named for the college's founding president, the Murry H. Fly Learning Resources Center houses a collection of approximately 70,000 volumes and serves an average of 100,000 patrons a year. Odessa College is a community college, where in the fall of 1993, more than 4,800 students were enrolled in credit classes, half of which were university parallel courses and half of which were occupational/technical programs. During the year, thousands of other students enroll in continuing education courses. The college will provide dial-in access to Unicorn to its extension centers in Andrews, Pyote, and Kermit.
