Huntsville, Alabama (March 14, 1995) - Brunel University, located in West London, England announces its selection of SIRSI's Unicorn Collection Management System. It was Unicorn's flexibility that appealed to Brunel. "Unicorn runs conveniently over our Systems Librarian campus network and easily off our Sun platform," said David Thomas. "In addition, Unicorn offers electronic mail export options, while other vendors we approached could only promise them in the future."

SIRSI's Unicorn Collection Management System uses a client/server technology which simplifies and improves the process of managing and accessing libraries' holdings. Its UNIX base allows the flexibility of choosing different platforms all of which operate with the same software. Its modular design enables users to build on the system's core bibliographic and Inventory Control modules, choosing and configuring the modules according to needs.

Brunel installed Unicorn on a Sun SPARCServer 1000. Libraries at two university campuses are connected to the host computer by an Ethernet network. The university has licensed the Academic Reserves, Acquisitions, Authority Control, Bibliographic and Inventory Control, Circulation, Enhanced Public Access, Materials Booking, and Serials Control Modules as well as an Intelligent Interface to Z39.50 servers.

A University since 1966, Brunel offers programs in technology, sciences, social sciences, design, and education to over 8,000 students. Brunel's Uxbridge and Runnymede campus libraries collection includes over 250,000 titles, videos, periodicals, reports and standards, statistics, and government publications.

Founded in 1979 by information and computer professionals, SIRSI, based in Huntsville, Alabama, is one of the world's leading suppliers of information automation.
