Huntsville, AL (December 3, 1996) - Sirsi Corporation announced today the license of UNICORN to Dordt College, a fully accredited liberal-arts college located in Sioux Center, Iowa.

SIRSI's Unicorn Collection Management System, using client/server technology, simplifies and improves the process of managing and accessing library holdings. Its UNIX base allows the flexibility of choosing different platforms, all of which operate with the same software. Its modular design enables users to build on the system's core Z39.50-compliant catalog, choosing and configuring additional modules according to local library needs. The college has purchased several modules including Bibliographic and Inventory Control, Circulation, Authority Control, Serials Control, and Acquisition, along with SIRSI's award winning WebCat World Wide Web Catalog access.

Dordt College will install UNICORN on an ALR Revolution Q-SMP. The library has selected SIRSI's InfoVIEW graphical client with Z39.50 for Windows. In addition to offering a consistent graphical interface to all staff and patron modules licensed by the library, InfoVIEW provides URL hyperlinks from within the UNICORN catalog to multi-media resources.

Dordt College is a co-educational Christian college founded in 1955 by members of the Christian Reformed Church. It offers associates and bachelor's degrees in over 40 fields as well as a master's degree in education. The college has a full-time faculty of 70 and enrolls over 1250 students from 35 states, eight Canadian provinces, and a dozen other countries. The library contains approximately 125,000 volumes and subscribes to over 700 periodicals.

Dordt has long been active in the integration of information technology across the campus. The college's 9:1 student to computer ration is among the best of colleges and universities in Iowa. Its fiber optic network allows students and faculty easy access to the campus system. It was among the first colleges in the region to provide Internet access on campus. The college was also the vanguard of the move to library automation, bringing its first automated catalog online in 1983. The cutting edge technology of the UNICORN library automation system and the world wide catalog access of the Z39.50 compatible WebCat continue Dordt's commitment to the goal of offering the latest information technology tools.
