Huntsville, AL (August 23, 1996) - Sirsi Corporation announced today the license of UNICORN to Beaver College, located in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

SIRSI's Unicorn Collection Management System, using client/server technology, simplifies and improves the process of managing and accessing library holdings. Its UNIX base allows the flexibility of choosing different platforms, all of which operate with the same software. Its modular design enables users to build on the system's core Z39.50-compliant catalog, choosing and configuring additional modules according to local library needs. The College purchased Information Gateway, Acquisitions, Serials Control, Academic Reserves, and Materials Booking as well as the OPAC, Cataloging and Circulation.

Beaver College will install UNICORN on a DEC Alpha host computer. The library has selected SIRSI's InfoVIEW graphical client with Z39.50 for Windows. In addition to offering a consistent graphical interface to all staff and patron modules licensed by the library, InfoVIEW provides URL hyperlinks from within the UNICORN catalog to multi-media resources.

Beaver College is a coeducational, comprehensive college offering graduate and undergraduate study to more than 2,600 students annually. The Beaver College Center for Education Abroad, one of the largest campus-based international study programs in the United States, serves an additional 1,300 students each year from nearly 300 American colleges and universities.

The Eugenia Fuller Atwood Library has over 128,000 volumes, 87,000 titles, and 760 periodical subscriptions, with non-print pieces numbering over 173,000. The library employs three full-time librarians, seven full-time staff, and several part-time staff.

Installation of the UNICORN system at Beaver College is made possible by a grant from HUD connecting the libraries of eight colleges in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
