Huntsville, AL (March 5, 1997) - Sirsi Corporation announces the license of its popular UNICORN library system to the Selkirk College Library in Castlegar, British Columbia, Canada. The College, a member of the British Columbia confederacy, is acting upon a recent government mandate to develop a technological infrastructure facilitating resource sharing between colleges and university colleges in B.C.
Selkirk College was established 30 years ago to nourish the post-secondary educational needs of West Kootenay residents. The College's mission is to provide quality education to meet the needs of the future while sharing its resources with other colleges and university-colleges in the province. Selkirk campus locations include: Castlegar, Nelson, and Trail, with centers in Grand Forks, Kaslo, Midway, Nakusp, and Crescent Valley, B.C. The college will be using the award-winning WebCAT and InfoVIEW to assist in distributing information throughout its community of users. The library is migrating from a BUCAT system and will install UNICORN on an IBM RISC System/6000 host computer.
Selkirk College offers an impressive range of programs: first and second year university courses; unique and specialized training in resource management technologies, forestry recreation, and fish and wildlife; tourism supervisory training in golf club, resort, and hotel management; and professional cooking. A performance oriented two-year music program is offered in Nelson, while an electronics core training program is available via home study to learners across Canada. The College's Professional Aviation program has earned an industry-wide reputation for producing top quality commercial pilots for nearly 30 years. An array of pre-employment, vocational, and career programs have been meeting the post-secondary educational needs of both regional residents and Canadian citizens.
