HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Sept. 30, 1997). - Already the recipient of several prestigious software industry awards, VIZION, an Internet research tool developed by Sirsi Corporation, has recently received acclaim in Business Information Alert, PC Novice , and Library Software Review magazines. PC Novice described the product as "ideal for professional researchers and information specialists," and "just as useful for educators, students, and staff at universities and high schools…One of its [VIZION's] best features is its ability to work with all types of clients, not just Web browsers."

VIZION users have one common interface for accessing, retrieving, and organizing remote data located in Z39.50 databases, World Wide Web, Gopher, Telnet, and FTP Internet sites. Sophisticated reference features such as keyword search, hierarchical display, and user-defined attributes enable quick and precise retrieval of collected data. Users can create topic folios and group destinations for rapid navigation among Internet sites.

VIZION also received praise for its versatility and flexibility in Library Software Review: "It allows the user to create or capture information from on-line resources or destinations, organize and manage this information, and launch client software, at the double-click of an icon, to connect to the remote site."

Business Information Alert noted that VIZION "combines database management power with organization savvy and a streamlined capability to launch Internet clients as well as other desktop applications."

"SIRSI is dedicated to developing tools which support and simplify the way information is distributed and shared," explained Jacky Young, SIRSI's president and Chief Operating Officer. "The Z39.50 communication protocol simplifies the information gathering process. By translating data exchange commands between a user's local computer system and external database targets, it keeps the user from having to work with unfamiliar search and display interfaces. Through VIZION, we hope a wide range of users will discover the benefits of the Z39.50 protocol."
