St. Louis, Missouri -- June 10, 1996: Data Research Associates Inc. (DRA) today announced availability of its free "Tools for Schools" collection on the World Wide Web. In addition to information about the company's DRA Schools collection of software and services, the page provides a valuable set of free Web-based resources for school librarians, media specialists and others involved in the K-12 school environment. The tools can be used to aid with library-collection development and curriculum planning, provide a source for student research, search for school project ideas, conduct electronic "field trips," locate funding sources and more.

Tools for Schools can be reached by pointing a Web browser to http://www.dra.com, and then selecting the DRA Schools icon or text. Among other interesting resources, the page includes:

  • book reviews and publishers of children's and adult's literature
  • links to interesting authors' Web sites such as A.A. Milne's Page at Pooh Corner and Wesselman's list of great writers and poets
  • on-line resources such as K-12 school newspapers, magazines and kids-oriented reading materials
  • community information and discussion groups related to K-12 activities
  • "fun follies" ranging from popular cartoons to a field trip in the Antarctica to an on-line tour of the Exploratorium in San Francisco

The site combines links to other on-line resources with comments, reviews, and original content provided by DRA School specialists. Tools for Schools will be updated monthly, with new links and reviews, as well as new tools, such as tips on how schools can increase library use. DRA also is actively seeking feedback about ways in which the page can be more useful to the K-12 audience. Comments can be directed to Jennifer Chilton Kallery at Jennifer@dra.com.
