SALT LAKE CITY, UT, June 7, 1999 - COMPanion Corporation will release Alexandria 5 at the American Library Association's Annual Conference June 26-29, 1999. Alexandria 5 includes the latest in technology with many new and enhanced features for easier library management.

Alexandria 5 introduces powerful technology and enhancements, including built-in library, Web and e-mail servers. The integrated servers allow users to instantly access on-line and network tools without having to configure a server. Alexandria 5's client/server technology also gives librarians faster network speed by eliminating filesharing.

New on-line features give Alexandria users the ability to receive instant on-line upgrades, without having to visit COMPanion's Web-site or wait for the upgrade to arrive in the mail. Updates and upgrades are easy to load and keep librarians current on versions that make it easier to use and support.

"The technology integrated into the new Alexandria 5 system makes the software an extreme value to current and prospective users. The features that have been built into the new system give our long-time users the familiarity they enjoy, plus many new features that will make their jobs less complex," said Bill Schjelderup, President, COMPanion Corporation.

As part of the integrated system, users can access the Full MARC Editor, which gives librarians the flexibility needed to keep records accurate and easily changeable. Many librarians currently use the EZ MARC Template to create and edit bibliographic records. Alexandria 5's MARC Template caters to the MARC Cataloger, giving users an easy format to add MARC records.

Alexandria 5 also supports old hardware used for patron searches or multi-media stations. Schools and districts can use old Macintosh, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 machines as patron search stations without reducing the network's speed, using TCP/IP network communications and client/server technology.

COMPanion will introduce ALA visitors to Alexandria 5's full cross-platform solution, to be released in September of this year. Alexandria 5 will run on Mac OS and Windows operating systems, including Mac OS 8 and higher, plus Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT. Alexandria 5 eliminates platform frustration and gives all users the option to use the new technology.
