AUSTIN, TEXAS, April 5, 1999 - Nichols Advanced Technologies, a Sagebrush Corporation company, announces the latest release of Athena Webserver, the award-winning software that puts a library's collections on the Internet. This announcement coincides with the release of Athena v7.1, the newest version of Nichols' best-selling library automation system.
The new release of Athena Webserver contains many new features that make it easier and more beneficial for a library to put its collection on the Internet. The most powerful addition to the new version is the MARC Download option.
MARC Download is an add-on to Athena Webserver that allows libraries to make their records downloadable over the Internet. Someone simply connects to the Internet and accesses a library's Athena Webserver. They perform a search and display the results. Then they select the title they wish to download and display its full description. Clicking on the MARC Download button gives them the option to download the MARC record immediately or add additional titles and download them all at once.
School Districts in particular will enjoy the advantages of being able to share their own MARC records across the Internet. D. Bruce Butler, President of Nichols Advanced Technologies says, "While all types of libraries will benefit from MARC Download, being able to share cataloging expertise and their MARC records across the Internet will be especially beneficial and timesaving for our large school districts. Districts have unique needs. At Nichols we recognize this and are committed to providing solutions like MARC Download that are designed to meet those needs."
Another new feature of Athena Webserver v2.2 is the addition of a second more sophisticated graphics set. Now Athena Webserver customers can customize the look of their Athena Webserver online catalog by choosing the graphic look that best fits their library.
And thanks to a new utility called Webserver Manager, it is easier than ever to customize Athena Webserver. Webserver Manager can be used to specify the number of titles per page of search results, specify whether Athena Webserver should display circulation status, choose a graphics set, and more.
