McHENRY, IL - September 2, 1997 - Follett Software Company just released Alliance Plus for Books in Canada, a new MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloging) record database available on CD-ROM. The unique database provides library media specialists throughout Canada with instant access to more than 500,000 comprehensive MARC records for Canadian-published titles. Users simply search the database for the MARC records they need and click to add the titles to their database - one at a time, in groups, or all at once as needed.
"Our Alliance Plus products have always helped library media specialists increase information access to their patrons. They offer instant access to millions of records. The addition of the Alliance Plus for Books in Canada CD-ROM makes it easier for Canadian library media specialists to find more of the titles specific to their collections," said Susan Rayfield, Product Manager at Follett Software Company. "It's one of the easiest ways to obtain records for Canadian titles."
Alliance Plus for Books in Canada operates with Follett Software's Alliance Plus software application, a cataloguing tool for original and ongoing cataloguing. Alliance Plus integrates seamlessly with the company's Circulation Plus and Catalog Plus library automation software, so the data performs instantaneously in each of the programs with no extra import and export steps. The Alliance Plus for Books in Canada CD-ROM meets ISO9660 standards, enabling it to work in both MS-DOS and Macintosh environments. The new database is available for $395.00 (Can.). The application software is available for $420.00. Alliance Plus will be available on the Windows platform in early 1998.
Follett Software offers three additional databases for use with the Alliance Plus software. The quarterly-released Alliance Plus database offers more than 500,000 records of the most requested, comprehensive K-12 school library book and serial titles published since 1970. Alliance Vintage is a free (to Alliance Plus database subscribers) supplemental database of more than 500,000 pre-1970 records that works well as an original cataloging tool for older titles and donated classics. And Alliance A/V ACCESS is a comprehensive collection of more than 430,000 professionally cataloged audiovisual materials suited for original cataloging. The databases contain comprehensive records, enabling users to increase access to their collections and promote more frequent use of their resources by adding additional access points.
