McHENRY, IL - June 2, 1997 - St. Mary Parish, spanning 65 miles from end to end in South Central Louisiana, has embarked upon a bold technology initiative. Its Technology and Internet Access Network will ultimately encompass 26 schools serving 11,700 students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The Parish chose Follett Software Company to provide its library automation software.
Each of the schools in St. Mary Parish will be installing the multiuser version of Follett Software Company's Circulation Plus, Catalog Plus, and Alliance Plus software applications. Circulation Plus is the most widely-used MARC (MAchine Readable Cataloging) microcomputer library management software in America. Librarians use the program for quicker and more accurate circulations, overdue notices, fine calculations, holds, renewals, inventory, statistical reports, and more. Catalog Plus is a complete MARC-based cataloging management and on-line information solution which provides patrons easy access to information. St. Mary's teachers and students will have access to their libraries' electronic catalogs from each classroom as well as in the library. Each of the schools will also be equipped with a Follett Software CCD scanner to assist in barcode scanning.
"Follett's software will essentially decentralize our libraries, giving our students and faculty much greater access to library resources," said Stanley Beaubouef, Technology Manager for St. Mary Parish.
"We'll be increasing the number of computerized card catalogs from two to almost 40, so students can - in a sense - visit the library from their own classroom
