CARL Corporation is implementing the CARL Information Management and Delivery System at two new sites in Singapore. One system for the National Library Board (NLB) will support all of the public libraries in Singapore as well as the National Library and the SILAS bibliographic utility. Another system will be installed for the Ministry of Education (MOE), which will support libraries in 353 primary and secondary schools, 16 junior colleges, and 2 special libraries--MOE headquarters, and the Educational Technology Resource Center. Both systems are scheduled to go live during the summer of 1999.

Several CARL staff members are already living in Singapore and working on these projects. CARL is on the lookout for qualified individuals to augment staff now on site. All project meetings and informal conversations are conducted in English.

Broad knowledge of library automation, library application software, data conversion, local area networks, and the Internet is essential. Experience with the CARL System is highly desirable. Enthusiasm for understanding cultural differences and working effectively with them is also very important. Versatility with many library automation tasks and concepts is expected. Lengths of assignment in Singapore are varied, ranging from three months to two years, followed by possible future assignments based in Denver or other mutually agreeable locations.

CARL's installation will help to bring Singapore closer to its goal of being an information rich, “knowledge-based” nation moving into the next century. The island nation, at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, combines Asian cultures with Western conveniences; this is a terrific opportunity to live and work in a modern and culturally exciting city.

CARL offers an excellent compensation package for these assignments. If interested, please send e-mail to resumes@carl.org.
