Los Angeles -- February 5, 1994 -- NOTIS Systems, Inc., in conjunction with the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter conference, today announced a strategic alliance with SilverPlatter Information, Inc., a leading distributor of electronic information products. Under this agreement, NOTIS Systems will dramatically expand its database offerings for users of its Z39.50-compliant database server, InfoShare.
To expand its database collection, NOTIS Systems will be incorporating SilverPlatter's search engine into InfoShare's Z39.50 structure. This enhancement will enable users to search any SilverPlatter database using the same search techniques.
"Our customers have told us they need to affordably expand their networked database offerings. Our agreement with SilverPlatter meets that need by offering many more databases delivered in a timely fashion," said Jane Burke, President of NOTIS Systems.
"Our customers will be able to service their patrons more effectively. Databases acquired from SilverPlatter can be loaded onto InfoShare without any intermediate processing. This saves our libraries money and time. By making InfoShare compliant with SilverPlatter's Electronic Reference Library (ERL), everyone will benefit," said Burke.
Bela Hatvany, President of SilverPlatter, agreed that this arrangement benefits both companies, as well as the library community. "We are extremely pleased about our new relationship with NOTIS Systems. Their customers can benefit from our comprehensive and growing collection of databases, and we can now offer Z39.50-compliant access to our databases."
NOTIS System's InfoShare will provide the Z39.50-compliant SilverPlatter offering on the Sun Solaris and IBM RS/6000 platforms by late Spring. InfoShare's high performance configuration allows multiple users to simultaneously access on-line databases on affordable UNIX platforms. The same search techniques are used to access all databases, and searches can be carried across databases without rekeying.
