Chicago, Illinois -- November 14, 1994. -- Endeavor Information Systems Inc., announced today that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire the library automation systems product line of San Mateo, CA, based MARCorp, including the client/server technology and applications embodied in the Voyager Library Series software products.
Endeavor is a new information technology company, formed to deliver client/server text and image management technology to the research library marketplace. Its principals combine several decades of library automation experience gained a a number of leading systems vendors. Endeavor's offices are located at 9700 West Higgins Read, Suite 100, Rosemont, Illinois 60018.
The Voyager product line is the first complete library automation system to combine the efficiency and scalability of client/server technology with the ease of use of a flexible Graphical User Interface and a dedication to open systems standards. The agreement involves the exchange of an undisclosed amount of cash and stock in Endeavor for certain rights to the Voyager technologies.
Patrick Franklin, Endeavor's Vice President of Finance and Operations explained, "MARCorp's owners have been very understanding and supportive of our intention to remain an independent employee-owned company dedicated to the research library marketplace. We feel that the market will appreciate it as well.
Mr. Franklin observed, "The academic and research library marketplace has demonstrated that it is ready for the benefits of client/server systems, well-thought-out graphical user interfaces, and the dedication to open systems standards that will make them full participants in the worldwide network. The time is right for a new Endeavor dedicated to serving the needs of those libraries."
Endeavor will begin immediately to support Voyager 2.0, a major new release being installed at sites on three continents. This version supports authority control functionality, enhanced internationalization, and second-generation Windows clients for staff and patrons. Endeavor expects to install its first jointly-developed major release in mid-1995.
