Abstract: Endeavor announces the ability to load EBSCO invoices through UN/EDIFACT format. Libraries using Voyager will be able to retrieve invoice files from EBSCO using FTP.

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS: September 16, 1998: UN/EDIFACT format invoices are now available to EBSCO Subscription Services customers using the Voyager Library Series integrated library system from Endeavor Information Systems. The invoice files are made available for secure transfer to the customer's system via Internet file transfer protocol (FTP). Each customer will be assigned a unique USERID and password for accessing their invoice files, and an e-mail notification message will be issued on the date the invoice file is processed and available for pickup.

The Voyager process loads invoice data based upon a hierarchy of match points. Customers should work with both Endeavor and EBSCO to formulate the best approach for establishing the match points for this process. Customers who take advantage of an FTP invoice can update financial data for serials more easily, reduce errors by eliminating manual input of data and eliminate problems associated with the shipping of diskettes and diskette failure.

"EBSCO is especially pleased to be able to offer an EDIFACT invoice to our customers who use Voyager," said Sandra Hurd, director of Library Automation. "The creation of this interface required a close working partnership between development staff from both companies, and we must also give credit to the contribution made by staff at the University of Pennsylvania and Kansas State University where testing was done. The finished product takes advantage of the flexibility inherent in both systems. We look forward to cooperating on future projects for the benefit of our mutual customers."

Jens Dill, Endeavor's EDIFACT project leader, said, "We're very pleased to partner with EBSCO on this project. Their zealous approach to implementing the EDIFACT standard ensures that customers will have all the necessary elements to communicate with Voyager's acquisition module."

A suite of automated serials management services for libraries and organizations is also available through EBSCO. Services include EBSCO/RETRO Retrospective Conversion Service, EBScan Data Input System and EBSCONET Online Subscription Service. For more information about EBSCO's electronic services, contact EBSCO's library automation team at (205) 991-1165 or any EBSCO Regional Office.
