Danvers, Mass. Ė Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a firm dedicated to creating global licensing and content solutions that make copyright work, announces that Portland Press has chosen to manage Article Publishing Charges (APCs) for its Open Access publications using CCC's RightsLink platform from within its implementation of the EJPress online manuscript submission and peer review system.

RightsLink streamlines the entire author fee transaction for Open Access charges, giving publishers an author-centric workflow powered by a pricing, discount and business rules engine.

As a publisher wholly owned by the Biochemical Society, Portland Press is fully committed to the open science agenda, and to serving the needs of its authors, readers, researchers, Society members and librarians. It offers several Open Access options and funder-compliant routes to publishing in all of its journals, including Biochemical Journal, Biochemical Society Transactions, Bioscience Reports, Clinical Science, Essays in Biochemistry, as well as forthcoming new titles Emerging Topics in Life Sciences, and Neuronal Signaling.

"Portland Press made it clear to the RightsLink team that it wanted an Open Access solution that supported its combined mission of serving scientists, their institutions and Society members," said Jennifer Goodrich, Director of Product Management, CCC. "To that end, Portland Press and RightsLink worked together to ensure metadata from journal articles sent from EJPress drives Portland Press' innovative pricing and discount rules that honor Portland Press' authors who are from subscribing institutions, Society members and more."

"I am delighted that Portland Press has implemented the RightsLink for Open Access system, allowing us to offer a smoother publication experience for authors publishing Open Access articles, while decreasing the administrative burden for the institutions at which they are based," said Professor Richard Reece, Chair of the Portland Press Board and Trustee of the Biochemical Society. "We are very pleased to work with a partner like Copyright Clearance Center that understands publishers' needs and the ecosystem in which we operate to bring the best service for authors and institutions."

The EJPress article submission and peer-review software used by all Portland Press journals was developed by eJournalPress, which provides hand tailored software through continuous innovation and individualized customer support solutions in an effort to promote science and scholarly publishing.

As part of its commitment to education, CCC regularly updates its Open Access Resource Center in collaboration with the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). The Center is a curated set of links to the latest Open Access news, reports, industry whitepapers, webinars and websites.
