Mountain View, CA -- 19 May 2016. ProQuest SIPX, provider of innovative course materials solutions for higher education, has saved students and universities an estimated $5.9M* by making it easy for faculty to share their selected classroom readings, including surfacing relevant quality reading options available to their students at no cost. Cost savings are growing as more universities embrace the SIPX solution, including Vanderbilt University, Pierce College (a member of the California community college system), Hamline University, Sewanee: The University of the South, Lipscomb University, Lesley University, Normandale Community College, and a first Canadian pilot school Wilfrid Laurier University.

Schools cite a range of reasons for introducing SIPX in their institutions, and apply SIPX to match their individual campus needs.

  • A course materials tool in the learning management system (LMS) that helps faculty set up and share any readings with students, and introduces more OER/library content to curriculum to lower costs for students.
  • Allows libraries, instructional design or bookstores/copyshops to introduce their curriculum services to faculty in the LMS.
  • Enables libraries, instructional design or bookstores/copyshops to grow and scale their course reserves or coursepack services to support more classes.
  • A component of revising and modernizing copyright education, policies and workflows across campus.

ProQuest SIPX offers three flexible course materials solutions to support teaching and learning workflows: SIPX Central, SIPX Campus and SIPX for MOOCs. Each are based on innovative technology that address a variety of copyright, cost and analytics concerns for universities. When instructors use SIPX to connect their students to materials that are OER/open access or available through their library's subscriptions, the cost of education for students is reduced.

All SIPX solutions are affordable, sustainable, easy to implement and offer benefits across campus:

  • Students typically save an average of 39 percent off of traditional course materials costs
  • Instructors have more visibility to relevant content that is available at no charge to students, such as OER/open access and library subscriptions, when they assign curriculum readings. They are also supported with intuitive tools for sharing non-subscribed copyrighted materials compliantly and useful analytics that give insight into students' engagement with reading assignments.
  • Administrators and deans can optimize and streamline their campus operations while driving student success, supporting quality curricula and lowering the cost of education.
  • IT directors can easily integrate SIPX into their existing LMS and teaching platforms with SIPX's cloud-based, scalable technology.
  • Instructional technologists can leverage a fast and easy copyright and content tool to support all types of teaching, including online education innovations and MOOCs.
  • Librarians get more use out of their collection investments and more insight into the content their campus needs for teaching and online education, as well as create significant savings for their own school's budgets in cases where the school pays for permissions.
