Abstract: ITHAKA, the not-for-profit leader in advancing and preserving knowledge worldwide, announced that Piotr Adamczyk will join the organization as Director of Image Content and Museum Partnerships.

April 1, 2016 New York, NY ITHAKA, the not-for-profit leader in advancing and preserving knowledge worldwide, announced that Piotr Adamczyk will join the organization as Director of Image Content and Museum Partnerships.

Adamczyk will lead ITHAKA's efforts to partner with cultural organizations around the world to grow the Artstor Digital Library, an online resource for teaching and research that includes more than 2 million high-quality images from museums, artists' estates, and archives. He will also head up a new team of designers and developers that will collaborate with these image contributors and users to identify and pursue new ideas for engaging and improving their work.

Adamczyk is among the first new staff to be hired by ITHAKA following the announcement of its strategic alliance with Artstor earlier this year. ITHAKA is committed to growing the reach of the Artstor Digital Library around the world and integrating its image collections in useful ways with the scholarship and primary sources available through ITHAKA's widely-used knowledge platform, JSTOR.

"The connection between Artstor and JSTOR at once amplifies the impact of existing resources and lets us think about ways to enhance image-driven research," said Adamczyk. "I'm thrilled to be joining the team."

Adamczyk has extensive experience working with content, data, and technology. Since 2011, Adamczyk has been Program Manager at the Google Cultural Institute, where he developed products and enhancements including mobile apps and information architecture for collections metadata, in addition to tools for digital asset management and preservation. Prior to his time at Google, he was a member of the digital media team at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, focusing on content and strategy. He has also held international art residencies at Medialab-Prado and the Banff New Media Institute, as well as at Eyebeam in the United States.

Adamczyk is deeply engaged with the digital and art communities, writing and speaking frequently at industry events including the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries, ACM Advanced Visual Interfaces, and Museums and the Web. He has advanced degrees in Human Factors and Library and Information Science, as well as undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

"Piotr's mind is fluent in the ways of technology and his heart is firmly committed to the care of our collective cultural heritage," said James Shulman, President of Artstor. "He has an extraordinary capacity to derive community-minded solutions that will support the flow of digital image content."
