Abstract: The new library services platforms (next-generation library systems) present libraries with opportunities to envision new ways of managing and discovering the information resources we acquire. Taking full advantage of those opportunities requires preparation, planning, coordination and creativity. Marshall Breeding will discuss workflow and technology choices and opportunities that libraries will encounter as they move from a traditional integrated library system to a library services platform that takes a more comprehensive approach to resource management. He will discuss steps needed to prepare for a successful migration, what libraries can expect for resource sharing and collaborative collection development, the implementation of library services platforms as shared infrastructure and the user experience. Information will be presented on existing consortial implementations.
